Ambition
What are we Ambitious for?
We all can be ambitious
in our lives, but the
question is what is
that ambition focused upon?
Ambition is something that
some people do have a
great deal of, whereas
others have less and
some appear to have
almost none.
People can have both good
ambitions and also bad,
sometimes it is not the ambition
itself that can be wrong but
the individuals attitudes and
desires within that ambition.
Sometimes people can be
ambitious within their careers.
They have a great desire to
succeed at what they do, or
also to gain that promotion
they have had their minds
and hearts set upon.
There can also be ambition
within family life;
to raise a family, to want
all their family to be
successful in all they do,
to be seen to be above others.
There is so much where we
can be and are ambitious,
whether it is in what has been
mentioned or leisure activities
or anything else.
But we all at one time or another
within our lives have had
an ambition that drives us
forward towards a goal.
As Christians we need to
realise that ambition has
to be checked at times to
make certain that it is not
taking us down a path which
may not necessarily be the
best thing for us or others.
Also we do not or should
not ever allow our ambitions to
damage in anyway whatsoever
our relationship with God,
our service for God and
our love for God.
Within church life, ambition
can be both needed and
also dangerous.
The church needs people to be
ambitious for God, for without
this the church will not
move forwards.
But what the church does
not need is selfish ambition.
This causes division and
many problems within the church.
What the church needs to learn
is that it needs to guide an
individuals ambition and lead
it into positive action, for them
and for the whole of the body.
So let us be ambitious for God,
and let us allow others to
help guide us in that ambition,
so that in all things we
bring glory and honour to God.
