Music
How important is music?
Everyone at some
point in their lives
has listened to music.
What type of music
one individual may
like to listen to could possibly
be different from that of another.
As we know, there are many
different types of music that
we can listen to and there now
are many different ways of being
able to listen to them.
Peoples' taste in music can
also change, for example
the music that I liked
to listen to many years ago,
now I would not enjoy.
How important is listening
to music to you though? There
are reasons why we like
to listen to music and
different music can give
different results.
What of the music within
the Church? And what of
the music within
the bible?
Within the bible, music
is mentioned frequently
and also for many
different reasons.
Music was, along with
poetry, the only main
Art forms that are part
of the Israelites Old
Testament culture.
It also was used in
praise to God for the
things he did for them and
also just to praise him for
who he is.
The same of course should
apply to the Church now,
music should be a major part
of our praise to God.
(There are other forms of praise
which I will not go into at
this moment)
But again, sometimes
we all can have different tastes
in music within the context of praise
and worship; what is important is
that this is done to actually
praise God and not to
demonstrate skill or talent
for the purpose of being seen.
Music can also attract people,
this is why music within
the Church has to also
be relevant to those
outside of the Church.
So we should enjoy music
and praise God with music.
But let us always be open to
new ideas of what can be done
within this as a tool to attract
others into the Church.
Yes many Christians are drawn to different music styles and some have various tastes. I myself prefer up-to-date and upbeat music that is how I feel people in these days should be within a church which can draw people in.
