Eating

 What do we eat?

 We eat daily unless
we are for some reason denied
food or we deny ourselves this.

Everyone has different tastes,
likes and dislikes, some
have allergies to certain food
types, others find certain
foods disagree with them.

Some find the preparation
of the meal just as rewarding
as the final product, others
love to see their hard work
rewarded by compliments.

Some eat simply because
they have to, they
cannot afford the meals
that they would choose.

Others eat to excess,
whereas others sometimes
cannot find enough to eat.

In our Christian walk with God,
we find that we have
much food on offer.

Within the bible is our food;
this sustains us and yet
this gives us growth
in our understanding of God
and our understanding of
ourselves.

It gives us the realisation
of how we should live, act
and speak in all areas of our lives.
It shows us what our attitudes towards
others should be and so much more.

If we deny ourselves this food,
then we suffer for it.
Yet what we also have to
realise is that just as with
our physical appetites,
we all can have many different
things within the bible we like to
eat and digest.

But sometimes we may not
like the food we are given,
we struggle to take it and
eat, though it can both sustain
us and help our growth.

Other things we read and hear
of the bible we can accept and so
take and eat far more quickly.
But as we do we must savour the taste.

And when we eat, we should not
eat too much all at once,
otherwise we will struggle to
digest all that we have read.

So let us learn to eat
of the word of God,
think on it and learn
from it daily.
